Most smoothies are sweet, but this pace-changer offers savory satisfaction. It’s made with a bone broth base, and gets its southwest flavor from avocado, tomato, lime, cilantro, and a chipotle seasoning blend.
Anita T. Shaffer, RDN

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted chicken bone broth (cold)
1 tbsp. pumpkin seed protein powder
½ cup avocado cubes (frozen)
½ cup grape tomatoes or chopped plum (Roma) tomatoes (frozen)
1 tsp. lime juice
2 tbsp. fresh cilantro or flat Italian leaf parsley
1 ½ tsp. salt free southwest chipotle seasoning blend
1 tsp. nutritional yeast
1 tsp. avocado oil
Directions
Pour broth into a blender.
Add protein powder.
Blend on high speed until smooth — about 1 minute.
Enjoy cold, or warm it up in the microwave!
Recipe Note
- Buying and using frozen cubed avocado adds convenience, helps reduce waste, eliminates the need to add ice to your smoothie, and helps make a smooth consistency.
- Pre-measure the avocado and tomatoes ahead of time, put them in small storage bags or other containers, and store in the freezer so when you’re ready to make a smoothie the ingredients are ready to go.
